Pine trees tend to make the soil around them acidic, and yes, the grass will eventually die off.  They do get big and would eventually push walls over.  How high are the walls?  Can people look over the walls? Maybe post a pic of the area you want to screen, would give us a better idea of what you're trying to achieve

Seldom have had a problem with this, but....... the site sometimes loads verrrrryyy slowwwwly, more often than not, and the pop-ups and feeds to other strange sites drive me dilly

I just planted some salad rocket in a planter outside my kitchen door, as well as some mustard spinach and dhania... leaves you can't do without for salads, sarmies....
