Bamboo does grow well on the highveld, however too well on occasions, it is best to grow it in large containers buried to ground level as it is a voracious spreader. Growing conditions appear to be fairly broad, though they appear to be forrest dwellers. However there appear to be many varieties. Indigo nursery (Cr Walton and 8th) in Midrand have bamboo in stock at the moment, and whilst there have lunch at the Baobab (nice pub and Tea garden)

If anyone wants to trade bamboos, please let me know. I have a smallish green one that grows about 2m tall, a variegated miniature that only grows about 40cm tall, and black, to offer. I'm looking for any bamboo, especially buddha belly and the big variegated one. I love bamboos.
