Hi Abby - stunningggggggggggg! I'm very envious, my roses aren't at all happy here in Paarl - was considering tossing them out, but when I see your display maybe I must give them another chance.

Congratulations, Abby. They look perfect and healthy. Have you got the name of the white/green one?

Michael
That is why I "always come up smelling of roses"   LOL

All those roses are growing in the chicken pen - Yes a lovely fragrance - the natural fertiliser there really makes them bloom  ???

Rena
Don't ever give up growing roses, I think it is important for you to get the right variety. If you drive around your neighbour hood, you will find roses which do better in your area, all of mine came from cuttings of roses I admired locally. Most people are more than happy to give you a cutting.

I live in a subtropical climate which is somewhat unsuitable for roses, few problems with aphids, blackspot and also the timing to prune is difficult not having a long enough dormant period. Particularly suitable variety for the warmer climate is ICE BERG which is more resilient in blackspot and has masses of blooms - it is in the front garden. I will post some more pix for you later.

In spite of those drawbacks, I get two main flushes in the year and sprinkling through summer, giving you some eight months of the year of colour. They do like to be fertilized after blooming.

Katja  :)
This is a cutting I got of my neighbour of a Green Ice Miniature Rose and it is 1 year old.

It quickly became a favourite

It is petite and perfect, these little charmer works well in patio containers, as borders, or among full-size roses or even as houseplants.  Green Ice Miniature Roses in a sunny spot with well-drained soil.

Have a look at some of Joyce's roses, she has a beautiful collection and an ideal climate for growing roses. I think it is called "some of my roses"

Hi Rena,

I felt like that with my roses too. But this year I tried to feed them every 4 weeks, sprayed them , water & mulch and what a difference. I agree with Abby, not every rose is suitable. Iceberg and Simplicity are good and so are Delotte & Touche and Betty Prior for example. If you have water, just keep on trying.

Hi Katja

I tried to do all those things faithfully this year, but think a big part of my problem is that our garden changes so from summer to winter.  In winter (when the trees and vines are not in leaf) they are in the ideal situation, but in summer they don't get enough sun - but the few hours of sun they DO get is scorching.  We have a borehole so they don't go short of water.  Am also now not so keen on spraying and am looking round for less harmful sprays.

Abby - you like making us envious don't you!  If my roses looked like yours I'd just sit and look at them all day.

Well done, Abby!
What a glorious display!

My one and only bush is having a second flush, so I'm stoked about that!
Best Regards,

Mel.
