How to plant crinum seeds.(My way)
« on: January 17, 2010, 19:14:01 PM »
Crinum seeds are more or less the same shape and texture, very soft and fleshy.
Put the seeds in a place were you can see them every day till the first little growing point start to show, wait till the root is about 20 cm long then you can start to plant them in a bag or a pot.
This is the seeds of Crinum macowanii.

Will posted pics to show the first leaves.
Happy growing.
Best regards
Chris

Are the seeds similar shape size and texture to the Clivia seeds ???
Do you have to sterilize the mix prior to placing the seeds on top ???
How fresh does the seeed have to be ???
What potting mix are you using Chris  ???
The pot is terracotta  ???
Is the mix moist ???

Sorry about all the questions but I have never grown Crinum from seed.
Never regret anything that made you smile.

Crinum seeds aren't similar in size ,shape and texture as clivia seeds, the size also differ from specie to specie, but appear to be similar in texture. They do germinate much quicker than clivia seeds with no special techniques.Just wait for the radical to appeared and plant.
I don't sterilize my mix,I use the same mix as for my clivias.
For the pictures I did use what I had at home, only compost mixed with fine sand (plastersand),I did water the mix after I planted the Prolific. The pot I used in the picture was a old plastic terracotta pot.normally at the nursery I used plastic bags.

Best regards
Chris
