Project Backyard - Before pics
« on: February 02, 2010, 13:21:06 PM »
This is my embarrassing, sad, barren backyard before the Orange G i r l s with their Orange Truck will move in next week to create a daylily and clivia paradise (I hope). Any change would be an improvement...

Herma, I'm so happy for you that you're getting someone in to sort it out for.  Can't wait to see the progress and after pics  ;D

Gogga, those hanging baskets will be ideal for some short leaf Chinese green, and variegated plants.
Looking forward to your progress.

Stef, great minds think alike  ;D ;D
I got those hanging baskets with gorgeous little variegated Chinese numbers in mind, but alas I have none - yet.  :mmm:
The other clivias are getting their own little cozy bed under the tree.

There has been progress. It looks awful now. If it rains before a retaining wall is built, my house will be flooded. The rocks and sand held the water back. Big old oleander stump is proving a tough customer, it's still standing.

Oi, I can't tell you how I feel! Excited, nervous, impatient...  Last night it started thundering and heavy rain and I did not have the courage to look out and see what's happening in the yard. Luckily it didn't rain for long.  The original idea was to build retaining walls to keep the water out of my house, but all I can think of now is the flowerbeds!
Filling the garden with plants is going to take some time though. All I have ready for planting are clivias, some cannas and a handful of daylilies. I hope I'll have money left for plants and fertiliser! I'll just fill all the beds with kappertjies until I can get permanent plants in.

Sjoe I can't believe it myself when I look at the "before" pics! I've forgotten how horrible it was!  I never used to go out there except to hang my washing. Now I practically live in the garden.
