Hanging Gourds
« on: March 19, 2010, 15:06:51 PM »
While we were discussing different creepers, I forgot to mention something we have encountered here in Korea.

They use decorative gourds as arbor plants. I think this is a very artistic way of decorating pergolas and other frames. Remember that these vines also have nice flowers before they produce fruit. Some are yellow, and others are white.
I bought a few different types of gourds/pumpkins to try back home.

Take a look at some of these.

Very cool   Can't make up my mind whether they look like funky light bulbs or bizzare balloons, however, still very unusual.  Nice to dry them out and make birdie homes ::)

Thanks Clemens :good:

Don't the orange ones look spectacular - they look like small Chinese lanterns.

What a wonderful treatment for a pergola

Lucky you getting seeds from them.

Fantastic idea!

I would just be scared of walking under them in case their weight makes them snap off the vine plant once they're more matured!
