Brugmansia seed.....noids
« on: December 02, 2012, 21:39:00 PM »
I am sending some brugmansia seed to Rena for distribution to RSA forum members who want to try and grow these plants.  Perhaps in future the receipients might have some seed to offer in exchange.  While the pod parent is a double, the bees pollinated this one so there is not guarantee of the outcome but then again the surprise is half the joy of growing plants.  I have sent Rena some note on how to grow the seed.

Thank you so much, Jose - the seed arrived today.  I'm going to soak some overnight and then plant in the perlite as you said - how long do the seed last if not planted immediatey?  Do I keep them in the fridge or just a dry place?  I'm dying to try the seed as for some reason I can't get them growing from stem cuttings at the moment....

So any other forum members who would like to try a few can contact me and we can make a plan.

There will be a lot more seed but I am having difficulty keeping tabs on colours.

Jose -

I shared the seed with Bill, Berge and LeRoy - thank you again.  Here's holding thumbs that one of us gets a real beauty!  And I hope we can let you have some seed in exchange one day.

How long does the seed take to germinate?  I googled and it seems to be a minimum of 2 weeks - is that correct?

The seed can take 2 weeks but all depends on temperature etc.

Seedlings will take 18 months to flowering size.

More seed will be available....different colours....size...etc

That's wonderful, Chris!

A few of mine are only germinating now, but the first ones are already planted out in individual pots and are on their 3rd set of leaves - so exciting!
