Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is strictly spoken a shrub, but I wondered if maybe someone could ID it? We have several of these in our garden, and I was fortunate enough to harvest some seed. I would like to grow them, but have no idea about the seed growing requirements.

 Sincerely,
Joh Viljoen

That looks about right.... Thank you for the ID. Do you have any experience growing these from seed?

One of our plants fruited last year and I harvested five seeds from it when the fruits were ripe. I would love to grow at least one from seed.... Thank you again for the identification.

I've never noticed any seed on mine - I've cut off the heads of my old branched plant with multiple heads and rooted them successfully though - they were getting very top heavy at about 1.5m.

Good luck - keep us updated on your progress!

Thank you again for the extra information..... We also do that, but my family suffers from a serious case of stick-it-in-and-see-if-it-grows :-D I like to grow things from seeds, because then it feels like I get to see the life of the plant. I will definitely keep this thread updated.

Hi Marko,

It is a very beautiful plant. We have the same one without variegated leaves, just plain green.

I am going to plant the seeds today, they had a hard shell, so I soaked them overnight. One was scarified, the other wasn't. Hold thumbs for a successful result.
